This year at the Annual Awards Banquet we collected non-perishable food items and monetary donations from attendees for the Food Bank of WNY. The PNA acknowledges that hunger knows no season. We recognize that food donations are frequent during the holiday season, so we wanted to help the WNY Food Bank to meet the community needs at our summer event. We anticipate making this an annual event to help the community hunger needs. Our Annual Awards Banquet was a great opportunity to celebrate nurses of great talent, and we thank all who joined us and also contributed to the donations collected! Please feel free to see me at the upcoming educational events and share your thoughts about volunteerism.

The PNAWNY has many volunteer opportunities within the organization. When you joined this organization, you were provided an insert explaining the committees available for you to join. Our success as an organization is dependent upon the participation of our members. In this newsletter I am highlighting the Nominating Committee. Our Nominating Committee meets just twice a year. Volunteers on the committee help identify and contact members who might be interested in running for PNAWNY offices (Secretary, Treasurer, President-elect, and Board Members). The Nominating Committee then counts the ballots after our elections are complete and notifies the winners. This committee is a great way to get to know the organization. Please consider running for this committee!

Among the many talented members who currently volunteer for the PNAWNY is: Linda Scharf, RN. She is a retired nurse who has volunteered in a number of roles for the Association. She is currently our volunteer Executive Director.  She also obtains contact hours for our educational offerings and coordinates our events.  Although Linda has retired from the profession of nursing, she contributes in a big way to the success of this organization. Her energy, enthusiasm, and dedication are appreciated. We are very lucky to benefit from Linda’s endless contributions. I would like to thank Linda for all of her hard work! When you see Linda at our many upcoming educational offerings, please join me in thanking her for her service.
